Reflecting a vision that every person deserves secure, prosperous, and dignified lives, Sehgal Foundation’s mission is to strengthen community-led development initiatives to achieve positive social, economic, and environmental change across rural India. With support from donors and partners, the foundation’s rural development interventions create opportunities, build resilience, and provide solutions to pressing challenges in hundreds of India’s poorest villages.

Foundation teams work with rural communities, creating sustainable programs and adapting technologies for managing water resources, increasing agricultural productivity, and strengthening rural governance. Emphasis on gender equality and women’s empowerment is central to each endeavor. The Transform Lives one school at a time initiative integrates programs to empower children in government schools.

Knowledge leaders on India’s rural development issues, foundation teams engage in participatory development research and impact assessment, and use community media, including a community radio station, to further inform actions, help carry out projects, and achieve sustainable results. The foundation hosts interns from around the globe.
